Political Graphics

So, after a year of hard slog completing my degree and establishing my self as a wee business, I am off on the trip of 'a lifetime' to the USA, Canada and Iceland. Which will unfortunately push my blogging frequency levels even lower, but at least you know where I am now!

When I am away I will be researching the influence of 'niave' or folk art on political poster design, and the influence this has had on graphic design and illustration, to write up for the Glasgow School of Art Visual Communications Blog. I'm particularly interested in the work of Ben Shahn.

Shahn did not formally study at an art college, instead taking a voctional route into lithography. His work is raw, and reminiscent of mexican mural and modernist pieces, with a focus on content. He was a passionate champion of the underdog.

There is a really great film about him, called Ben Shahn: Passion for Justice which I would recommend.

So, on that note I leave you for a few months!
