AMP exhibtion

It has been great to spend the last 6 months working alongside some start up community artists, and even greater to have exhibited alongside them at the Barrowlands art and design space, with Impact arts.

This exhibition marked the end of my community arts mentoring programme. It has been a great experience, which saw me undertaking projects across Glasgow- Schools workshops in Rosemount Primary, Craft Café in Govan, and the commonwealth community cookbook in Garnethill- which is currently under wraps until it is published in a few weeks time.

Exploring Violence: reflecting on personal experience of domestic and state violence

These posters were created in collaboration with Govan Craigton Integration Network Women’s group. This is a social group for women seeking leave to remain in Glasgow.

Working with colour and graphic shapes, we explored themes of peace & violence at home, and links to state violence across the world. We worked towards messages of hope and unity. The posters are being displayed at community venues in South West Glasgow. There are many different languages spoken in the group, so using bold visual representations was a good way to work collaboratively, rather than relying on the spoken or written word.

All of the women in the GCIN women’s group have fled their home countries out of fear- often for their lives. Unfortunately their experiences of state violence do not end once they reach Britain, and many of the women face the possibility of being imprisoned in detention centers at any point. This constant fear of detention has highly detrimental effects on their physical and mental health.
