I had a fantastic weekend visiting Judith of Bountiful Buckhaven! A Growing Space and community project based in Fife, run by CLEAR, the project has established a 120 tree orchard, community plots, polytunnel and a lovely wildlife garden. Judith got in touch with me late last year and we are working together on some really exciting commissions. The first will be a map of the community orchards in and around Buckhaven. We went on a wander to visit some of them, mapping them out as we went. After some on site sketching and some planning, we had coffee in her great new office and thought about how we can apply my design work to the project. I will be working on mapping, jam labels (they have great community jam making days with all their delicious produce!) and some notice boards to let people know about the wildlife in the area.
It is such a pleasure to be working with this great project! Really fun commission from Ideal Mexico, a new Edinburgh based night for performance, improvisation, music and poetry in interesting spaces around the city, featuring exciting touring acts and a DIY ethos.
For their first event they are bringing Richard Dawson to legendary sepia folk pub The Waverley, with support from acclaimed poet JDA Winslow and extra unannounced performances early on. I am developing a character who will be used in a narrative exploring the experiences of living with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder). A number of people have taken part in this project so far- and some have sent me incredible writings about their experiences- which i will help me to develop the narrative. While i did this I listened to a podcast by Chris Oatley, a Disney character designer, and Will Terry, which was interesting and quite inspiring really! have a listen here.
Japanese artist with such a playful and fun style- very influential for me it terms of incorporating a similar aesthetic into graphic design projects. take a look at her incredible work!
It's been a while since I spent much time in hospitals, considering I used to be there everyday for three years! Was back today with a good friend admiring the Christmas decorations and being sung at by mobs of small children...
I'm currently working on a really exciting and BIG project with The woodcraft Folk, putting together a book that documents their five year TREE project. It is going to be really rich with imagery, photos and pattern. I want it to be the kind of thing that people will hold onto for a long time.
At the moment I am at a kind of 'mood board' phase with it, playing around on pintrest and working with different patterns. I am very excited to start putting it all together! As the nights draw in and the weather gets colder, I present to you this wintery bear. A little snippet of a project i am working on currently!
Recently finished some fun work for Newcastle based band Shift Static. They are fantastic, check them out. This image will be used in promotion for a gig they have coming up in Camden's Roundhouse in Febuary. |
